Amethyst Heat Treatments for Clients Living with and Beyond Cancer E-Learning Course *BRAND NEW* January 2026
Course Outline
This e-learning course is designed to teach therapists the most beneficial and appropriate way to use heat therapy treatments and techniques within the therapy room, in the spa and giving homecare advice. It takes 2-3 hours to complete, and a certificate is provided at the end of the course.
This e-course includes the latest guidance from the Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC) regarding the use of heat-based treatments, such as hot stone, Himalayan Salt Stone and Lava Shells for clients living with and beyond cancer.
This course will cover:
- Understand why SATCC updated its guidance on gentle heat in cancer care
- Understand contraindications, areas of caution, and suitability for using heated tools with clients living with or beyond cancer
- Describe the safety considerations required when applying gentle heat (≤ 42 °C/107.6 °F) to cancer/oncology clients
- Appreciate the potential benefits of gentle heated-tool massage for people living with and beyond cancer
- Safely apply mild, localised heat within professional guidelines, adapting technique, pressure, and pace appropriately
- Incorporate Simple Lymphatic Drainage (SLD) principles and other cancer/oncology-adapted methods into your treatments
- Be aware of the different massage oils and evaluate their suitability for use with heat
- Perform correct hygiene, temperature calibration, equipment care, and appropriate record-keeping
- Communicate clearly with clients and colleagues, confidently explaining the rationale and safety of adapted treatments
- Understand the importance of aftercare, resilience, and self-care—for both therapist and client
Assessment Methods
All of the Amethyst e-learning courses have supporting materials that can be printed out to make notes and have tutor audio for accessibility. Units include quizzes to help the learner consolidate their knowledge as they go and there is a final Assessment which has a qualifying pass rate of 80%.
Pre-Requisite Requirements
To apply Practitioners must be:
- Qualified in cancer/oncology massage, and
- Specifically trained in the safe and appropriate use of heat tools such as stone therapy massage, Himalayan salt stones and Lava Shells

Duration
