Amethyst Heat Treatments for Clients Living with and Beyond Cancer E-Learning Course *BRAND NEW* January 2026

Course Outline

This add-on e-learning unit is designed for therapists who have previously completed the Amethyst Specialist Cancer Massage Course, to learn and understand the most beneficial and appropriate way to use heat therapy treatments and techniques within the therapy room, in the spa and giving homecare advice. It takes around 2-3 hours to complete, and a certificate is provided at the end of the course.

This e-learning unit includes the latest guidance from the Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC) regarding the use of heat-based treatments, such as hot stone, Himalayan salt stone and Lava Shells for clients living with and beyond cancer.

This unit will include:

  • Why SATCC updated its guidance on gentle heat in cancer care
  • Understanding contraindications, areas of caution, and suitability for using heated tools with clients living with or beyond cancer
  • The safety considerations required when applying gentle heat (≤ 42 °C/107.6 °F) to cancer/oncology clients
  • The potential benefits of gentle heated-tool massage for people living with and beyond cancer
  • Safely applying mild, localised heat within professional guidelines, adapted techniques, suitable pressure and pace
  • Incorporating Simple Lymphatic Drainage (SLD) principles and other cancer/oncology-adapted methods into your treatments
  • The use of the different massage oils and evaluate their suitability for use with heat
  • Performing correct hygiene, temperature calibration, equipment care, and appropriate record-keeping
  • Communicating clearly with clients and colleagues, confidently explaining the rationale and safety of adapted treatments
  • Understand the importance of aftercare, resilience, and self-care—for both therapist and client

Assessment Methods

All of the Amethyst e-learning courses have supporting materials that can be printed out for you to make notes, and have tutor audio for accessibility. Each Topic includes a quiz to help the consolidate your knowledge and there is a final Assessment which has a qualifying pass rate of 80% before certification.

Pre-Requisite Requirements

To apply Therapists must have:

  • Previously trained in the Amethyst Specialist Cancer Massage Course, and
  • Trained in the safe and appropriate use of heat tools such as stone therapy massage, Himalayan salt stones and Lava Shells

Duration
